Was in 1937 when the first aviator sunglasses came out. A total bestseller despite that they were conceived as an alternative to the typical safety glasses for pilots - the 'googles' - . But, in a very short time they become a must have. Popularized by Ray-Ban and originally designed by Bausch & Lomb, the aviator are, without a doubt, the most copied style in the history of the optical industry. Celebrities like Tom Cruise in 'Top Gun' or the musician Ringo Starr has helped significantly to these mythical sunglasses polarization. I have to admit that, although I have many glasses, this format is my favourite. Its tear-drop shape, its thin frame and its retro but always modern look, are some of the features that I like most of this kind of sunnies. The ones that you see in the picture, are inheritance from my dad, a glasses that he wore on his wedding, and that have been rescued by me. Like him, I changed the lens opting for these classics ones from the 70s, transparent in covered and smoked when it's sunny. I leave you with a selection that have stolen my heart, a top ten in which you will find eye glasses, trendy styles for this autumn-winter 2013/2014 and some other vintage ones to collectors.

As a curiosity, apart from the aviator of, in 19885 the brand 'American Optical' in 1885 almost literally copied the 'caravan', a style from 1957 by Ray-Ban. This style was also a great success of sales, differentiating by his frame and lens more squared. A style that was produced in 12 Carat solid gold until the year 1975. By the way, the caravan sunnies were so famous when Robert DeNiro wore them on 'Easy Rider'.
